Define what you will paint

Separate walls, ceiling and elements that will receive a different product. For each rectangular section, multiply width by height and add the results. For irregular surfaces, draw simple shapes and keep the calculation for each part. Deduct only the openings you have measured and decided to exclude; small junctions and returns may also be part of the work.

Use the specific product's data sheet

Coverage and the planned number of coats are not universal constants. Consult the technical data sheet for the chosen product, colour and substrate; also check the packaging and safety data sheet. The Titanlux page consulted provides separate documents and warns that a screen only gives an indication of colour. Do not infer the quantity of paint from a photograph.

Enter the surface area, coats and documented coverage into the calculator. If coverage is expressed per coat, maintain that basis throughout the calculation. Any additional reserve must be an explicit decision, justified by geometry, absorption or touch-ups, rather than a promise that it will suffice.

Check before purchasing

Compare estimated litres with the available pack sizes and ask whether you can retain a batch and colour reference. Save the figures used so you can revisit them if you change products. This guide prepares an estimate; it does not describe sanding, stripping, working at height or treating damp. If you notice deterioration or an unknown coating, seek advice before intervening.

At a glance

Scope

Quantity estimation, without instructions for work on substrates.

Before starting

  • Checked dimensions and openings.
  • A chosen product and current technical data sheet.

Supporting materials

  • Tape measure.
  • Paint calculator.
  • Technical data sheet and packaging.

Difficulty

Basic for simple surfaces.

Indicative time

One measuring and research session; does not include application or drying.

Steps

  • Separate surfaces and products.
  • Measure and add areas.
  • Check the product's coverage and coats.
  • Enter assumptions and compare commercial pack sizes.

Checks

  • Does the coverage apply to each coat?
  • Have returns and the ceiling been included where relevant?
  • Is the reserve shown separately?

Maintenance

Keep the colour reference, batch and estimate for future touch-ups.

Type of review

An editorial synthesis of documentation; no physical testing or technical review by a professional is recorded. Building decisions require on-site verification.
