Not every tile solves the same problem

Ceramics include products with different uses and finishes. When requesting a sample, ask for its full reference and check whether it is intended for walls, floors, indoors or outdoors. Do not infer suitability for a wet or busy area from its apparent texture.

Porcelanosa's documentation distinguishes glazed, unglazed and textured surfaces when explaining cleaning. This distinction reminds us that the word 'ceramic' is not enough to anticipate a specific tile's care.

Compare the installed assembly

Prepare a small diagram with joints, changes of plane, corners and junctions with doors. Tile format affects the cutting layout, but the tile alone does not resolve the substrate's condition or water in a shower. Ask the installer to document the planned layers and products, their compatibility and the applicable instructions.

Request that the quote also identify adhesive, jointing material, profiles and preparation. This lets you distinguish a difference in finish from a difference in system.

Keep samples and references

Before approving, inspect several pieces from the supply where possible and record batch, shade and calibre if shown on the packaging. Keep identified spares according to the agreed plan.

For cleaning, first remove loose particles and use a product compatible with both surface and joint. Avoid turning a treatment for one stain into a general routine. This entry is document-based: it does not verify slip resistance, watertightness or workmanship. If tiles are loose, cracks appear or water leaks occur, request a review of the whole assembly.

At a glance

Composition

Ceramic product defined by reference, body and finish; consult the tile's data sheet.

Uses and selection

  • Walls or floors only according to the declared use.
  • Indoors or outdoors when documented.

Installation

Ensure compatibility between tile, substrate, adhesive, joints and junctions; review the complete system in wet areas.

Limitations

  • Do not infer performance from appearance.
  • A tile alone does not establish the assembly's watertightness.
  • Care changes with finish and joints.

Cleaning

Remove loose dirt and consult instructions for the product reference and jointing material.

Repair

Assess the cause of cracks or detachment before replacing tiles; keep identified spares.

Technical documentation

  • Tile data sheet.
  • Installation and maintenance documentation.
  • Batch, shade and calibre references where provided.
  • Document-based comparison; no testing or site inspection.
