Transparency does not describe the solution

When choosing glass, start with function: admitting light, allowing views, separating spaces or providing privacy. Then record location, dimensions and conditions of use. An image allows comparison of transparency and reflections but does not demonstrate thermal, acoustic or impact performance.

Saint-Gobain's STADIP laminated glass is described as several sheets joined by an interlayer. The manufacturer offers different compositions and additional functions; 'laminated' therefore does not suffice to prescribe a solution. Nor should that term be confused with a double-glazing unit, which requires a description of the assembly.

Ask about supports and junctions

Give the professional a drawing of the opening, nearby areas and intended opening movement. Frames, hardware, seals and supports form part of the selection. For doors, balustrades or large pieces, specification and installation require technical verification appropriate to the location. This entry does not set thicknesses or validate a protective element.

Ask for the quote to identify composition and treatments rather than merely 'clear glass'. If you need privacy, observe a sample from both sides under different lighting conditions.

Keep care accessible

Some glass incorporates coatings with their own instructions. BIOCLEAN documentation shows that maintenance is linked to the product, not just the base material. Ask how to clean without damaging treatments and how to reach the surface safely. Do not attempt to restore a cracked piece: document the damage and request specialist assessment. This comparison is document-based and includes no testing of our own.

At a glance

Composition

Single glass, laminated glass or a glazing assembly with composition and treatments defined in the quote.

Uses and selection

  • Openings, partitions and other elements with technical specification for their location.

Installation

Check composition, dimensions, frame, supports, hardware and local conditions with a professional.

Limitations

  • Transparency does not establish performance.
  • No thicknesses or protective uses are prescribed.
  • Treatments and coatings alter care requirements.

Cleaning

Follow coating and treatment instructions; plan safe access without improvisation.

Repair

A cracked piece requires specialist assessment; no domestic repair is proposed.

Technical documentation

  • Glazing composition.
  • Performance and treatment documentation.
  • Drawing of frame, seals and supports.
  • Reading of documentation; no calculation or impact testing.
